Introduced in 1979, the ‘Computer Musical Instrument’ enabled users to play short digital audio recordings through a keyboard. After the rise of synthesizers from the late 60s onwards, as well as the first use of drum machines, it was actually something else that laid the groundwork for The Art Of Noise – the Fairlight CMI. Who’s Afraid of the Art of Noise? (1984) released on ZZT Recordsįast-forward to 1983. I guess that you can say that they were afraid of the art of noise. With the 87-page manifesto (which was in fact a letter to a friend eat that, social media-era pen pals!), he connected the Second Industrial Revolution to the way new industrial sounds, sonics and energies could enable futurist musicians to shift away from classical compositions and instrumentation, by “reproducing with appropriate mechanisms.” However, at that time Russolo’s own concerts with noise-generating devices and his ‘noise orchestra’ led to heavy objection and even violence from the audience. He was an Italian composer, Futurist painter and builder of experimental music instruments, who was well ahead of his time-we’re talking circa 1913. The group’s name and concept sprouted from L’arte dei Rumori (The Art of Noises), a futurist manifesto by Luigi Russolo. On the other hand they have been at the forefront of truly cutting-edge music and pioneering methods of digital sampling, which includes their essential debut album Who’s Afraid of the Art of Noise? On the one hand, they had Grammy Award-winning production for Yes’ 90125 (including the earworm-slash-guilty pleasure Owner of a Lonely Heart) and an official cover of Prince’s Kiss featuring Tom Jones, topping charts around the world. The catalogue of English avant-garde synthpop group The Art Of Noise is quite ambiguous. A collaboration with The Find Mag, discovering the story behind an iconic sample.

Firefox’s speed rivals some of the best browsers available, using less memory and other Windows resources. The colorful, attractive theme appeals to most people who use the platform, and ease of use and minimal menus are some of the top benefits. While you can use the interface bar like a search engine, Google appears as the default. The main advantages include improved download protection, process separation, and specific customizations on the web browser. Initially running on 32-bit systems, Mozilla Firefox updated to a 64-bit MSI package for Windows in 2016. Since then, it’s become one of the most popular browsers on Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Mac, Linux, and mobile devices. Originally named Phoenix, the brand changed to Firebird and then to Firefox in 2004 to avoid trademark claims. The US company behind the Mozilla Suite already had a browser running in 2002, but they wanted to escape Netscape’s sponsorship restrictions. Launched by the Mozilla Foundation in 2003, the open-source program has undergone several name changes, face-lifts, and updates to become the class software it is today. Mozilla Firefox is a free web browser for Windows and Mac operating systems. You can always export your Firefox or Chrome bookmarks to IE and then into Safari, but being able to import them directly would be a better option.Īt any rate, if you've wondered about Safari, here's your chance to see it for yourself.Xavier Slim Updated 14 days ago Free open-source browser Some things are missing for instance, Safari for Windows can import Favorites from Internet Explorer into its bookmarks, but apparently the same isn't true for Firefox or Chrome bookmarks. Unlike some of Apple's software, Safari is more like the competition than unlike it, with tabbed browsing, a customizable toolbar, and security and privacy options. We started with some news sites, moving through some of our imported IE Favorites and finishing with some random searches. Safari has a good reputation, and we found it to be quick and stable. Clicking Preferences under Settings opens a tabbed dialog with many more options, including Appearance, Tabs, Security, Privacy, Extensions, and RSS. The Bookmarks bar holds icons to show the Reading List, Top Sites, and All Bookmarks. One feature we really like is the Page icon that displays a menu just for the current page. The Settings icon opens an extensive menu that includes private browsing, pop-up blocking, Extensions, and customization buttons. Safari has a separate search field instead. For instance, the address bar searches the History rather than using your default search engine. Safari for Windows is plain but clean and intuitive, with many similarities to other popular browsers as well as some differences. Safari's page layout shows how much Web browser functionality dictates form these days. Its new features include the Reading List, which collects Web links and bookmarks that you want to check later. Safari is a great way for Windows users to take a bite of the Apple since, as a Web browser, it can only be so different from the Big Three IE, Firefox, and Chrome. Safari for Windows lets PC users try Safari for themselves. Safari is Apple's stylish, easy-to-use Web browser for its Mac OS. This pressurized brake fluid in the wheel cylinder then pushes the cylinder pistons outwards, pressing each brake shoe against the rotating brake drum to stop the wheel. The master cylinder then converts this force into hydraulic pressure, carried by brake fluid through a brake line to each wheel cylinder. When you depress the brake pedal, the force generated by your foot transfers to the brake master cylinder. Now that we understand the structure of a brake wheel cylinder, let’s get to how the wheel cylinder functions with the rest of the braking system. The bleeder screw is hollow, with a small hole in the head that assists with brake bleed. A bleeder screw that’s used to bleed brake fluid and eliminate air from the brake cylinder. An inlet port that connects the wheel cylinder to a brake line that carries brake fluid. In addition to those, there are two other vital components: The dust cap protects the cylinder bore from moisture, brake dust, and dirt. An outer dust boot (also called a dust cap) covers each end of the wheel cylinder.A spring between the pistons that hold each piston seal in position. Each piston has an internal piston seal (or rubber cup) to maintain brake pressure and prevent brake fluid from leaking past the piston.A piston on each end that connects to a brake shoe via a shaft. The iron or aluminium protects it from corrosion and rust.Ī new wheel cylinder bore is fitted with these: Its main body is a cylinder with a bore, typically made of cast iron or aluminium. The wheel cylinder structure is relatively simple. The Anatomy of a Drum Brake Wheel Cylinder It’ll make it easier for you to understand how things can go wrong later. Now that we’ve covered the basics, let’s dive deep into how wheel cylinders are structured. While most modern vehicles use disc brakes, it’s still common for older vehicles or small trucks to have drum brakes on their rear tires. Unlike the drum brake wheel cylinder that delivers a pushing force onto a brake shoe, a disc brake caliper squeezes brake pads onto a spinning rotor to slow the car down. It’s used to push a pair of brake shoes outwards so that they can contact a brake drum to slow down your vehicle with friction. Like any moving component, the slave cylinder is subject wear and may become damaged, which leads to a brake fluid leak and hindered brake performance. The backing plate protects the brake wheel cylinder components from water, dirt, and debris.Īlso called a slave cylinder, it applies force on the brake shoes to help halt a car. The wheel cylinder is positioned at the top of the wheel inside the drum brake - fixed to the drum brake backing plate with mounting bolts. The brake wheel cylinder is a crucial component of your car’s drum brake system. Like I mentioned in the intro to this post, the Rare Beauty Liquid Touch Brightening Concealer is available in 48 shades in varying undertones. Shade 120C swatched on the back of my hand. It covers redness really well too, which I have in spades! It’s definitely on par with the NARS Creamy in this respect, so if you like that level of coverage, you’ll really like this. I can apply one thin layer for lighter coverage days, but then proceed to build things up to a solid medium coverage if I so wish. This has very buildable coverage, which I love for its versatility. RATING: 3.5 / 5 ⭐️ MY THOUGHTS ON COVERAGE I don’t apply any eye cream underneath my concealers to prevent creasing, so perhaps that’s why…? But weirdly, it doesn’t look dry *every* time I use it so I really don’t know what to make of it. Now, while this does have a thin, creamy formula, I have noticed that *sometimes* it looks a bit dry right on application, particularly under my eyes which is definitely not ideal. I’ve also applied this concealer over larger planes of the face, like the area around my nose, my chin and my forehead, and I’ve never experienced any tugging or patching. I apply this concealer in exactly the same way as I do with the blushes that means, gently patting it in with the warmth of my fingers for the most natural finish. This definitely has a creamy, lightweight consistency that’s quite easy to apply and blend onto my dry skin. RATING: 5 / 5 ⭐️ MY THOUGHTS ON APPLICATION Personally, I rarely apply the doe-foot directly onto my skin since I like to apply the smallest amount of product I can get away with, but I think it’s a useful feature for those who want more coverage. This has a tear-shaped doe-foot applicator that I can only imagine is designed to sit snugly into the inner-most corner of the eye. (If you didn’t read my review on the blushes, I mentioned in it that apparently the circles on top are designed to help those who have auto-immune diseases that can affect the joints.) I just love the attention to detail, and that very satisfying click you hear when you screw back on the top! Identical to the Soft Pinch Liquid Blushes, you have a small, lightweight frosted plastic bottle with a twist-off cap and a decorative/functional circle on top. I’ll say it again, and again: Rare Beauty really nails its packaging. Showing the tear-shaped doe-foot applicator on the Rare Beauty Liquid Touch Brightening Concealer Blends like a dream to even out skin texture. After some extensive testing over the past month, I’m ready to share my final thoughts with you guys. I normally love a good coverage, lightweight, hydrating concealer (for reference, the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer is probably my ultimate go-to), and the Rare Beauty one claimed to tick all those boxes for me. I haven’t tried a new concealer in what feels like forever, so I was very keen to give this one a go. At the time of writing this, Rare is exclusive to Sephora and their own website. Now we’re rounding things up with a look at the Rare Beauty Liquid Touch Brightening Concealer, which retails for $19.00 and comes in a whopping 48 shades (!!!). We first spoke about the Dewy Lip Balms – which were OK but not my favorite – and then we segued into the Soft Pinch Liquid Blushes – a total fave and stand-out of the line for me. Here we are at the final post in my 3-part mini review series on Rare Beauty. 1 TBS chopped fresh oregano or mint leaves (1-1/2 tsps dried).1 TBS chopped fresh rosemary leaves (1-1/2 tsps dried).1 TBS fresh thyme leaves (1-1/2 tsps dried).Air Fryer Marinated Lamb Shoulder Chops (Paleo, Keto, Gluten-Free) The marinade here is more acid forward than that ratio. When in doubt, a good rule of thumb is to use a ratio of 3:1 fat to acid. Sometimes I will temper that by adding a touch of maple syrup or honey. The ratio of fat to acid is purely subjective. Examples of fat include extra virgin olive oil, vegetable oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, coconut milk, and full fat dairy. It also imparts moisture into things like lean meats and firm tofu. Acids include citrus juice, vinegar, wine, mustard, buttermilk, and yogurt.įat is an important component in marinades because it helps to hold the other ingredients together. The tanginess of acid helps to balance the fat and seasoning. Acid also helps all the other flavors to penetrate deeper into foods, especially sturdy vegetables like cauliflower. The base of a really good marinade includes a few components: acid, fat, and seasonings.Īcid helps break down the connective tissue in meat to tenderize the muscle. Marinades are wonderful vehicles for tenderizing and adding flavor to proteins, vegetables, and soy products. Flash cooking lamb shoulder chops in the air fryer worked best to retain some moisture and allow the excess fat to melt away. I also discovered that grilling the chops dried them out. This really helps to tenderize the meat and soften the marbled fat. What I found worked best was to marinate or brine the lamb before cooking it. I wanted to see if I could get that same great flavor with a better texture. Though, I have to admit that the meat was a little tough. However, I ordered a grilled shoulder chop at a restaurant recently and was impressed with the intense flavor that gets lost when braised. Generally, shoulder chops are slow cooked in a braising liquid to tenderize them. I happen to like these chops a lot because of the marbling of fat that imparts a good amount of flavor. Lamb shoulder or blade chops are a little chewy and less lean than the other portions. Loin chops are basically the porterhouse cut with a meaty steak and a tiny tenderloin on either side of the T-bone. Ribs from the rack are the most elegant, leanest, and also the costliest. There are several cuts of lamb that you can prepare in an air fryer. When shopping for lamb, I recommend looking for grass-fed for the highest quality and cleanest tasting. It is slightly gamey with hints of fresh, sweet grass. Refrigerate until serving time, but bring to room temperature to serve.Air Fryer Lamb Shoulder Chops with Bitter Greens Salad Recipe 3.8 - 64 vote Cool until comfortable to handle and cut lamb meat away from bones, discarding fat and gristle. Cover tightly, transfer to the preheated 350° oven, and bake until lamb is super-tender, one hour check occasionally to make sure the liquid has not entirely reduced and add a little water if the pan is dry. Add the wine, chicken broth, and herbes de Provence stir to loose browned bits. (Add unpeeled garlic cloves to the pan, if you like, and brown them a bit during the last couple minutes of browning the meat). Brown the chops on all sides in olive oil in a braiser or Dutch oven, which will take about 8 minutes. I also love serving the meat from braised lamb shoulder chops in a salad. I like to serve braised lamb shoulder steak (chops) simply as you would any good braised cut, such as beef short ribs or pot roast or pork shoulder: with puréed potatoes, baked rice, noodles, or another starch, and a lovely green vegetable. |
